VICINATION ADMISSION CEREMONIES

Several of New Jersey's judicial districts may hold swearing-in ceremonies for local attorneys.

If you are interested in participating in one of the ceremonies, you MUST contact the appropriate person listed below for registration and additional information. Attendance may be restricted and participation will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

You are responsible for providing the state oath form given to the neighborhood and must follow any other instructions the neighborhood gives you. Please note that if you wish to be admitted to the Federal District Court, you must follow the District Court's instructions for taking the oath and return the oath form to the District Court. This includes submitting the oath form to the federal district court along with your fee.

SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES

Candidates who pass the exam should refer to their users' home pages for specific information regarding their eligibility for admission. Please note that passing the exam does NOT automatically admit you to practice law in New Jersey. It is your responsibility to follow the instructions provided.

Of the 922 candidates who took the exam, the result was sent to 908. Of the 908, 543 or 59.80% passed.

The results of the July 2022 Order Exam will be released on October 7, 2022

The July 2022 Bar Exam results will be posted on user home pages on October 7, 2022. Please do not call the office as it will take approximately one hour to post all results.

Please note that if you have not provided a certificate from law school or have other unfinished business, your results will be withheld. If you have not provided all supporting documentation such as driver's résumés, documents requested by your reviewing attorney, etc., you may not be certified for admission. your user home page to be admitted.

Applications for the February 2023 New Jersey Bar Exam will open on October 1, 2022. The deadline is October 31, the deadline is November 15, and the FINAL deadline is November 30 .

Applicants requesting accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) must submit the recently revised form which can be found on the "Application Forms" tab under "ADA Testing Accommodation" and under "Browse Forms."

At this time, the February 2023 Bar Exam is scheduled to be administered in person.The Board of Bar Examiners will administer the in-person examination informed by guidance from the New Jersey Department of Health (NJ DOH), Center for Disease Control (CDC), and other authorities. For the July 2022 exam, these guidelines included a variety of safety measures, such as proper and frequent hand washing, social distancing, and the use of masks.Proof of vaccination, booster (if eligible), and/or negative test results were also required for the July 2022 exam.The Board of Bar Examiners will continue to closely monitor public health and safety guidelines related to the COVID-19 pandemic and will provide updates that may affect the February 2023 exam administration as necessary.

NCBE Issues July 2022 UBE Declaration and Recent Supreme Court Decisions

The National Conference of Bar Examiners (NCBE), creators of the July 2022 Uniform Bar Exam, issued the following statement: “Examinees taking the July 2022 MBE, MPT, and MEE developed by NCBE will not need to be familiar with US Supreme Court decisions during this time period.

February 2022 Bar Exam Fee Reimbursement/Transfer Form Available for COVID-19

Candidates who are symptomatic or have recently tested positive for COVID-19 and have not completed any required isolation period,should not reportto the test site on any test day, regardless of immunization status.

Candidates who are unable to sit the exam for these reasons may request a refund or one-time transfer of application fees to the next exam (i.e., the July 2022 Uniform Bar Exam). Applicants requesting a single fee transfer must submit a reapplication for the July 2022 bar exam when registration opens.

Applicants requesting a fee refund or transfer must submit the“COVID-19 Test Result - Fee Transfer/Refund Form”by email to: Ref-Carry.Mailbox@njcourts.gov before Monday, February 28, 2022. New Jersey Bar Exam COVID-19 Vaccination and Test Application Now Available

The New Jersey Bar Exam COVID Vaccination and Test Application is now available to candidates.

To correctly upload immunization/testing information and records, all applicants for the February 2022 New Jersey Uniform Bar Examination must:

1. Sign in to access the COVID Vaccination Tracker (CVT) app and
2. Access the CVT application, specifically the insuranceCOVID Test and Vaccination Application for the New Jersey Bar Exam,to enter your data and upload your documentation.

We strongly encourage applicants to be “vaccinated and boosted” or “recently vaccinated” as outlined in the Bar Association Board of Examiners letter dated January 14.^º, to upload your information and records to the portal “Vaccination and Testing of the Covid Order Examination” as soon as possible.By entering your information,it doesnouse the "Public Access" portal.

Claimants who have not been "vaccinated and boosted" or "recently vaccinated" as described in the letter from the Bar Association Board of Examiners dated January 14^º, you must submit a PCR test or a rapid test observed in a laboratory or telehealth with a test result certified by the provider in order to take the bar exam. othe exam must be taken on or after Wednesday, February 16, 2022. All bar exam candidates are reminded that immunization or test information and records must be submitted electronically only through the secure online portal of the Judiciary. Submission of COVID-19 vaccine/test results should only be done through the Judicial Portal

All candidates for the bar examination are reminded thatinformation and immunization or test records must be submitted electronically through a secure online portaldeveloped and maintained by the New Jersey Judiciary. I alsoInstructions on how to submit proof of compliance using the secure portal will be provided.

Documentation of:

(1) proof of vaccination (plus booster if eligible); either

(2) a negative COVID-19 test result

couldnobe uploaded to the Board of Bar Examiners user home page. All these shipments will be removed from our system and will benobe reviewed for compliance with the Board's immunization/testing requirements and eligibility to sit for the February 2022 Uniform Order Examination. If you have already uploaded your documentation to the user home page, you must re-upload it as soon as the secure Judiciary portal is available.

February 2022 Order Exam Requirement

O The New Jersey Board of Examiners requiresallCandidates for the February 2022 Uniform Order Examination must demonstrate that they have:

1. Has been vaccinated, including a booster if eligible, as described below; either
   
2. You received a negative test result for COVID-19 as described below.
   

More detailed instructions on how to submit proof of compliance with these requirements are provided below.

COVID-19 vaccination (plus booster if eligible): Adriventhe applicant has completed an initial vaccination course and received a booster. Arecently vaccinatedthe applicant has completed an initial vaccination course: within 5 months from February 15, 2022, for Moderna or Pfizer; or within 2 months after February 15, 2022, for Johnson & Johnson. Based on these timelines, if you are eligible to receive a booster by February 15, 2022, you must also provide proof that you received a booster.

Negative COVID-19 test result: While PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) tests are preferred, a candidate may submit a PCR test or a laboratory-observed or telehealth rapid test with a provider-certified test result to sit for the PCR exam. bar. Testing must be completed on or after Wednesday, February 16, 2022. Test results must be returned by 8:00 AM. m. on Monday, February 21, 2022.

Sending receipts: Details on the method of submitting the required proof of vaccination or negative test result will be provided in the coming weeks.

Additionally, masks and social distancing will be required throughout the exam.

Fee refunds or transfers will be provided to applicants who refuse to be vaccinated or provide a negative test result.

The Board will continue to closely monitor public health and safety guidelines related to the COVID-19 pandemic and will provide updates that may affect the administration of the bar exam, as necessary.

Laptop registration for the July 27-28 Remote Uniform Bar Exam via ExamSoft will open atThursday,June 17, 2021 at 5:00 p.m. m. (ET) and must be completed by Thursday, July 1, 2021 at 5:00 p.m. m. (ET)which is also the deadline for candidates to have uploadedBothMandatory mock exams.All candidates, including non-standard exam candidates, must register with the ExamSoft laptop program. Mock exams are essential to administering the exam and also allow you to test the software and your equipment and become familiar with the software's features. these mock exams three times, as described below.

Council offers remote uniform exam for July 2021 and publishes application form for new accommodations

The New Jersey Board of Bar Examiners will offer the July 2021 Uniform Bar Exam (UBE) as a remotely proctored exam administration. Application deadlines are: March 1 to March 31 for on-time applications; April 1 to April 15 for late applications; and from April 16 to 30 for the FINAL presentation of all entries.


As a reminder, those who received a postponement from the February 2021 Uniform Order Remote Exam to the July 2021 Uniform Order Remote Exam must submit a new application. For payment, please indicate "Check or Money Order" which will alert your records manager to process your fee transfer.


Applicants requesting accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) must submit the recently revised form which can be found on the "Application Forms" tab under "ADA Testing Accommodation" and under "Browse Forms."

In light of ExamSoft's required software update for the Examplify version2.6.4,the Board of Bar Examiners strongly recommends that candidates take Mock Exam #4.While this mock exam is not required, taking mock #4 will ensure that candidates have the latest software loaded prior to exam day.

Feb 2021 Remote Uniform Bar Exam - ExamSoft Laptop Registration Opens Today

Laptop registration for the remote uniform bar exam on February 23-24 via ExamSoft will open atThursday,January 14, 2021 at 5:00 p.m. m. (ET) and must be completed by Friday,January 29, 2021 at 5 p.m. m. (ET)which is also the deadline for candidates to have uploaded the two mandatory simulations.All candidates, including non-standard exam candidates, must register with the ExamSoft laptop program. All candidates will receive an email from ExamSoft with instructions to download and register the latest version of the exam software (ie Examplify).

Through the registration process, applicants will have access to perform and uploadtwo mandatory drillsthrough the example:“Mock Exam 1”mi"Mock Exam 2". In addition, there will be an opportunity to take an additional optional exam.“Mock Exam 3”(which is a duplicate of"Mock Exam 2".)

Mock exams are essential to administering the exam and also allow you to test the software and your equipment and become familiar with the software's features. these mock exams three times, as described below.

Of the 1,407 candidates who sat for the exam, results were sent to 1,406. Of the 1,406, 930 or 66.14% were approved.

Process and Forms to Use If Requesting Remote Transfer of October 2020 Bar Exam Scores

Although the October 2020 remote bar exam did not yield a Uniform Bar Examination (UBE) score, the New Jersey Board of Bar Examiners has entered into reciprocal agreements with various jurisdictions that allow for interstate portability of scores of the bar exam obtained from October 5 to 6, 2020. Candidates who wish to transfer their score from the October 2020 remote bar exam into one of these eligible reciprocal jurisdictions should use the existing UBE score transfer process and forms currently listed on our website under "Request for UBE score transfer". All requirements set forth in this section regarding the transfer of Uniform Ordered Exam (UBE) scores apply to the portability of your scores earned on the October 2020 Remote Bar Exam. Based on a score earned on a reciprocal jurisdiction, all other requirements to enter and complete admission to the bar pursuant to Rule 1:24-1 (Qualifications and Entry Requirements) and Rule 1:27-1 (Plenary Admission) must be met to qualify for admission to the New Jersey Bar Association.

On rare occasions, a candidate may face a technical problem in the middle of the exam. After Examplify restarts, it will return 59 seconds from where it left off in the exam.DO NOT DO CLOSE OR EXITthe exam, as you will not be able to re-enter and your exam session will end. Applications for the February 2021 New Jersey Bar Exam are now open. The deadline is October 31, the deadline is November 15, and the FIN deadline is November 30.

Example of application update and exam file availability

The bar exam files will be available for download by candidates on September 28. ExamSoft will send candidates an email with instructions for downloading the exam files. The Board of Bar Examiners strongly encourages candidates to be on the lookout for instruction emails from ExamSoft and to download exam files as they become available. This will ensure that candidates have enough time to deal with any unexpected technical issues so that these issues are not faced on exam day.

When candidates download the exam files, they also download an update to the Examplify app. This update addresses the specific functionality of cutting and pasting to and from shared devices (for example, multiple Apple devices) and prevents this functionality from being available between devices for use during secure exams. This update does not affect cut, copy, and paste functions within the Examplify application itself (for example, copying from the notes section to the response text).

Candidates will automatically be prompted to update their software during the week of September 28 when they log in to download the bar exam files. ExamSoft regularly sends new updates to users and this update will not break other features of the application. For added security and application experience, candidates will have an additional opportunity to take Mock Exam 2 after installing the update. Although downloading of the software update is required, participation in the additional practice test is completely optional and is not required to take the test.

Deadlines for ExamSoft mock exams

As a reminder, the deadline to complete Mock Exam 1 and Mock Exam 2 was September 18. Candidates who have not completed Mock Exam 1 and Mock Exam 2 will be disabled on September 24 (unless they have a pending support ticket) and will NOT be able to take the exam.

COVID-19 - October 2020 Remote Order Exam - Draft Allowed for MPT ONLY

The New Jersey Board of Bar Examiners will allow candidates to use scratch paper in themulti-state performance test(MPT)only part of the exam. This change is being made due to the size of the MPT materials, limited screen space, and the current highlighting functionality available in the ExamSoft software. Please note that scratch paper CANNOT be used for the Multi-State Essay Exam (MEE) or the Multi-State Bar Exam (MBE). The use of waste paper in the MEE or MBE will result in further investigation.

Bar exam results for February 2020 will be posted on user homepages on May 8, 2020. Please do not call the office, it will take several hours to post all results.

Please note that if you have not provided a certificate from law school or have other unfinished business, your results will be withheld. If you have not provided all supporting documentation such as driver's résumés, documents requested by your review attorney, etc., you may not be certified for admission. Candidates must pass the exam, be certified by the Character Committee and receive a letter of approval and be ready on their user home page to be admitted.

COVID-19 – Admission by Motion Applications -- Standard deadline for documents

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 60-day timeline to submit standard documents required to complete New Jersey Bar Applications for Motion Admission has been relaxed until further notice. The Supreme Court and the Bar Association Board of Examiners announced today that due to the public health emergency stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic, the New Jersey Bar Exam in July will beadministrationin the fall of 2020, specifically, inSeptember 9^º(Wednesday) and September 10^º(Thursday).As such, registration for the Fall 2020 Bar Exam is now open. The application deadlines for the Fall 2020 exam are as follows:

Timely:Friday, May 8^º($ 675)

First afternoon:Friday, May 22^{North Dakota}($ 950)

Final term:Friday, June 5^º($ 1200)

COVID-19 - New Jersey July 2020 Bar Exam Postponed to Fall 2020

The Supreme Court and the Bar Association Board of Examiners announced today that due to the public health emergency stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic, the New Jersey Bar Exam will not take place on July 28 and 29, 2020, as previously scheduled. The bar exam has been postponed until the fall. For complete details, see the Order of the Supreme Court dated April 6, 2020 by clickinghere.

If you have already submitted your completed application for the July 2020 bar exam, no further action is required. If you have already started your application for the July 2020 exam, you can continue to complete your application. We will be updating our website to notify you of the extended deadlines.

The Board of Bar Examiners, in consultation with the Supreme Court, will continue to closely monitor public health and safety guidelines, including prohibitions against large gatherings, related to the COVID-19 pandemic. In the event that large gathering limitations continue to interfere with the administration of the fall New Jersey Bar Exam, alternative means of evaluating candidates for admission to the New Jersey Bar Exam will be planned and announced.

COVID-19 - 2020 Law Graduates - Bar Exam Postponement Request Form

Candidates who submitted their applications for the New Jersey bar exam in July 2020 and paid the application fee, but who need to request a deferral to the next available administration of the New Jersey bar exam (for example, February 2021) based on personal difficulties must send the"Request for postponement of the 2020 Bar Association exam"Format. The form can be foundin the "Other forms" tab.

COVID-19 -- Temporary practice under supervision subject to certification by the Character Committee

The Supreme Court temporarily relaxed and expandedRule1:21-3, so that 2020 graduates of accredited law schools who have not previously taken the bar exam may practice law temporarily under the supervision of a licensed attorney who has been licensed to practice for at least three years. The 2020 graduates must send the payment of the applicable fee and all the required materials for their review and certification by the Council and the Character Committee before the close of June 5. The 2020 graduates must be certified by the Character Committee before they are allowed to practice under the supervision of this order.

COVID-19 – Notary requirements

Effective immediately and until otherwise ordered by the Court, the requirement that bar applicants submit a certified copy of the bar application and any accompanying documents is relaxed. Instead, applicants may submit a statement that the content is true and correct, as long as the statement or certification in lieu of an oath complies withRule1:4-4. The Board of Examiners of the Bar Association is accepting Official Certificates of the Faculty of Law (NTA) signed electronically temporarily and until further notice. In this case, the law school must email the electronically signed Official NTA Law School Certificate to the applicant, then the applicant must send the email and certificate to the accommodation drop box at:barada.mailbox@njcourts.gov

The deadline to submit an application for the July 2020 bar exam has been extended to April 30, and no late fee will be applied to an application submitted before that date. The Board of Bar Examiners continues to monitor the situation and will provide further updates on the July 2020 exam.

Electronic signatures of documents:During this COVID-19 crisis and until further notice, the Board of Bar Examiners will accept all electronically signed Certificates of Law School, Certificates of Good Standing, and Certificates of Character.

Ranking for the February 2020 exam: The New Jersey Uniform Order Exam February 2020 score is progressing normally despite the crisis. Although the Board does not currently anticipate problems with the issuance of results for this exam within the usual timeframe (i.e.,middle of May), all applicants who have applied for the February 2020 UBE should monitor their emails and/or this website for updated information.Will the July 2020 bar exam be administered as scheduled? What impact, if any, What the current coronavirus COVID-19 crisis will have on the July 2020 Uniform Bar Examination (UBE) in New Jersey is not certain at this time. We are in close contact with the National Conference of Bar Examiners and other jurisdictions as we all consider possible options for the July 2020 exam in the event of the closure of the bar association admissions office or ban on large gatherings remain in force. As of March 20, 2020, the Clerk of the Supreme Court will no longer accept applications for certificates of good standing.

If you are trying to obtain a Certificate of Good Standing, please follow the instructions set out on the Board of Bar Examiners website: https://www.njbarexams.org and mail your request to us along with your check or money order to the address on the "Certificate of Good Standing Request" form.

New Jersey and Maryland now have reciprocity for motion admission.

Lawyers admitted to Maryland who meet the requirements for admission by motion may now apply by motion in New Jersey. Interested applicants should read all information related to admission by motion before applying. Be sure to meet ALL conditions, as fees are non-refundable.
