Job overview and qualifications
The Patient Care Technician (PCT) provides quality, patient-centered care by performing a variety of delegated basic patient care services related to general care functions and activities of daily living. Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN), the PCT assists the nursing staff in patient care according to the PCT's skills/training and the needs of the department and provides ongoing support to the patient care team in maintaining a clean, well-cared for condition. organized and safe environment for patient care. PCT adheres to all hospital policies/procedures and complies with the Norwegian Nursing Council's rules for unauthorized personnel.
What you will do in this role:
- Participates in the implementation of care plans by providing direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of the Registered Nurse.
- Receives and records initial and ongoing patient information throughout the cycle of care, including admission data, vital signs, height and weight, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, intake and output, calorie count and other patient information as per guidelines.
- Supports mobility by regularly turning and positioning, hanging and walking patients. Assists in using walkers, crutches, canes and wheelchairs. Transfers patients to and from other units, departments or facilities. Assists with layoffs. Demonstrates proper body mechanics.
- Obtains or assists in collection of specimens for diagnostic or completed tests. Ensures accuracy of all labels and timely transfer of samples.
- Assists patients with activities of daily living including eating and drinking, bathing, shaving, oral care, personal hygiene and voiding. Change bed linen as needed.
- Acts as monitor/telemetry technician for the unit when needed.
- Covers evidence-based best practices that improve the patient experience, including SAFETY ROUNDING, Basic Communication/AIDET, Teach-Back, Narrative Care, etc.
What qualifications do you need:
- Basic Cardiac Life Support or CPR or CPR for Health Care Providers or Heart Saver CPR must be requested within 30 days of starting employment
